In the spirit of the start of the school year, HAE ponders the future of education by inviting the leaders of industry, technology, and entrepreneurship to discuss the trends in the education.

  • What is the future of learning?
  • How does technology change education?
  • Who are the leaders of tomorrow?

The panelists: 

Clifford Maxwell, Product Manager, Clayton Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation. At the Institute, Clifford leads the popular Blended Learning Universe - an online hub filled with blended learning resources and practical guides, and maintains a directory of blended learning programs worldwide. He also manages the Institute's online course offerings on Coursera and Khan Academy. 

Griffin Weber, M.D., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Medicine, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Currently, one of Dr. Weber’s research areas is in expertise mining and social network analysis. He invented an open source social networking website for scientists called Profiles RNS, which automatically mines large datasets such as PubMed, NIH ExPORTER, and the U.S. patent database to discover investigators' research areas and scientific networks. 

Rob Rubin, Director of Microsoft Professional Degree.  As the founding VP of Engineering at edX, Rob led partnerships with Google, McKinsey and Stanford to open-source the platform, ran the educational services team to assist faculty in building curriculum, and reached 3M learners in over 150 courses. Rob is also an entrepreneurial engineering executive, author, and mentor to Techstars and Project 11 startups. 

Jean Hammond, Co-Founder & Partner at LearnLaunch Accelerator and active angel investor. Jean focuses on early stage high-tech and high-growth start-ups. With over 20 years of experience in the high-tech industry, Jean served as a director or advisor with over 30 of the companies within her portfolio, and is a member of three angel groups.

John Werner, Vice President of Meta Labs. Most recently John served as Head of Innovation and New Ventures at the Camera Culture Group at the MIT Media Lab, as well as Founding Managing Director of Emerging Worlds SIG. He is Founder and Curator of Ideas in Action and TEDxBeaconStreet. John is also one of the two founding staff members of Citizen Schools, and helped transform Citizen Schools from a concept paper in 1995 into a thriving national educational organization with 20,000 volunteers and 2,500 staff.

Svetlana Dotsenko AB' 11, (moderator) Founder and CEO of Project Lever. Project Lever is an educational technology company that produces matching software for universities. Svetlana is an active contributor to Huffington Post, Forbes, and Boston.com, writing on educational technology and career development. 

The panel discussion will be followed by networking and pizza.
