EMPOWERMENT EVENING with YWCA Metropolitan Chicago

Social entrepreneurs don't just do business as usual - increasingly, those building business are using social consciousness and an evolution in consumer behavior to shape their business models. Attend this Empowerment Evening and hear from local entrepreneurs and impact investors about how they built cultures, braved skepticism and grew their businesses along with social impact.

Dorri McWhorter, CEO, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago

YWCA Metropolitan Chicago is the oldest and largest women’s organization in the region, with a mission to eliminate racism and empower women. Today, they help more than 200,000 individuals annually through programs focused around Safety & Wellness, Education & Training, and Economic Sustainability.

Rumi Spice partners with Afghan farmers to bring top-quality, sustainably farmed saffron to customers around the world. Started by a team of US military veterans joining forces with a lawyer who worked for the Afghan Rural Enterprise Development Program, Rumi sources saffron from local Afghan farms and employs more than 300 women in Herat, Afghanistan to hand-harvest the delicate crimson stigmas of the flowers. Committed to empowering Afghan women and bolstering the country’s economy, Rumi reinvests back into agricultural and manufacturing infrastructure. We are laying a foundation for peace, one saffron flower at a time.

Mindi Knebel, CEO, Kaizen Health

Kaizen Health strives to improve community access to healthcare by providing a logistics hub for both provider and patient. That means developing a process and the technology to relieve the administrative burden from provider and financial burden from the patient so they can both focus on the healing and treatment plan. Kaizen Health is dedicated to developing the technology and process to improve the healthcare experience for all involved, increasing access to patients and giving back valuable staff hours to healthcare providers.
